A.DIES IRAE

This standing table embodies the grave consequences of indiscriminate single-use plastic consumption, taking inspiration from stormy clouds, lightning, and torrential rain. The tabletop, crafted from recycled plastic boards, represents storm clouds, while the metallic gold-plated structure below evokes striking lightning. Supporting this composition are stainless steel pipes, symbolizing sheets of heavy rain.

Through its bold and thought-provoking design, Dies Irae presents environmental issues with a somber tone, drawing from the weighty theme of the iconic melody often associated with death and finality in Western classical music. At the same time, its kitschy aesthetic adds a layer of wit, creating a striking juxtaposition.

The title, Dies Irae, references a melody universally recognized as a symbol of mortality and apocalypse, which will accompany the exhibit to enhance its evocative atmosphere.

“Dies Irae“ (진노의 날; 디에스 이레) 라는 제목으로 무분별한 일회용 플라스틱 사용으로 인해 병들어 버린 기후 환경을 먹구름과 번개 및 소나기를 모티브로 한 스탠딩 테이블로 표현했습니다. 재활용 플라스틱 보드 상판을 통해 먹구름을 표현하였으며 하부에 도금된 금속으로 연출된 번개 조형 및 장대비로 표현된 스테인리스 파이프가 상판을 지지하는 구조를 이룹니다. 환경 문제에 대한 화두를 ‘Dies Irae’ (레퀴엠; 서양 고전 음악계에서 ‘죽음’과 ‘종말’을 대표하는 선율)로 무겁게, 그러나 동시에 키치한 디자인을 통해 위트 있게 전달하고자 했습니다.
